So you have a new computer with the Windows XP operating system. Great! Have you noticed that the fonts are small and the icons itty bitty?

We (YES, we) can fix this.

The geek answer is that the screen resolution defaults to a large resolution. This should give a sharper picture but what difference does that make if you cannot see anything?

What you need to do is change the resolution. Stop panicking. It's easy and YOU can do it.

Go to START, pick CONTOL PANEL. When that pops up with a bunch of choices, pick DISPLAY.

At the top of the DISPLAY window, you'll have 5 tabs running left to right. The one on the far right is SETTINGS. Pick that.

What you see now is the picture below. Note the red arrow I added in the lower left. See that bar with numbers and the words, LESS and MORE. Move the bar to LESS. It should be 800 x 600 pixels.

I know. Feels like you should be choosing more but in this instance LESS is bigger. Trust me.

Now click APPLY and then OK. Go look at your desktop. See? It's enlarged. And YOU did it.
