So you have
a new computer with the Windows XP operating system. Great! Have you noticed
that the fonts are small and the icons itty bitty?
We (YES, we) can fix
this.
The geek answer is that the screen resolution defaults to a large
resolution. This should give a sharper picture but what difference does that
make if you cannot see anything?
What you need to do is change the
resolution. Stop panicking. It's easy and YOU can do it.
Go to START,
pick CONTOL PANEL. When that pops up with a bunch of choices, pick
DISPLAY.
At the top of the DISPLAY window, you'll have 5 tabs running
left to right. The one on the far right is SETTINGS. Pick that.
What you
see now is the picture below. Note the red arrow I added in the lower
left. See that bar with numbers and the words, LESS and MORE. Move the bar to
LESS. It should be 800 x 600 pixels.
I know. Feels like you should be
choosing more but in this instance LESS is bigger. Trust me.
Now click
APPLY and then OK. Go look at your desktop. See? It's enlarged. And YOU did
it.
